| 1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience. | |
The Department of Leadership and Educational Studies intends to offer a program leading to the Master of Library Science degree in Davie County. The courses will be delivered at the Davie Campus of Davidson Community College, 1205 Salisbury Road, Mocksville, NC beginning August 2011. Typically, six hours will be offered per term, with a total of 37-39 semester hours provided. This constitutes 100% of the Master of Library Science program. The program is designed to be offered to a cohort group with a maximum limit of 20 students. Students outside the cohort will be permitted to enroll in a course with the permission of the academic program coordinator. Internship requirements will be met by each student in accordance with academic department guidelines. Intern placement and supervision will be handled and evaluated by certified faculty. The proposed audience is individuals from NC, particularly the Davie County area, who currently possess a Bachelor’s degree and intend to continue their professional development to assume Media Coordinator positions in the public school system or leadership positions in public libraries. This program is intended to be an ongoing offering.

| 2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.). | |
The majority of the courses will be delivered as a result of Appalachian faculty members traveling to the site, but use of the internet may also be employed in the delivery of instruction.
| |
| 3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies). | |
ASU has offered Library Science cohorts in the eastern part of its service region for many years, including Rowan, Forsyth, Yadkin, and Iredell Counties. The choice of the Davie County site is an attempt to consolidate these multiple potential sites into one more centralized site that could service these areas. To our knowledge, no other institution is offering the program in Davie County.
