UNC President Tom Ross to Participate in College Sports Forum

March 13, 2014

University of North Carolina President Tom Ross has been invited by the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics to participate in its March 17 meeting in Miami, FL, as an independent participant.  Ross will participate in the meeting’s public sessions and will also meet with Commission members in their executive session.   During public sessions, Ross will join Knight Commission members, other invited participants and panelists in discussing proposed changes to the NCAA’s (National Collegiate Athletic Association) governance structure, opportunities and potential pitfalls associated with other major changes proposed for college sports, and the status and future direction of academic reforms.

Ross has served as president of the 17-campus UNC system since January 1, 2011.  The Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, co-chaired by University of Maryland System Chancellor Brit Kirwan and Southern Methodist University President Gerald Turner, promotes a reform agenda that emphasizes academic values in college sports.
