Lumina Foundation Funds Study of Services Provided by College Foundation of North Carolina Website

CHAPEL HILL, NC – A $39,000 grant from Lumina Foundation for Education is being used to analyze website services and determine user-demand for new features on the College Foundation of North Carolina site, CFNC.org.

CFNC.org is a free, comprehensive college access site provided by the State of North Carolina through a collaborative effort of state and private organizations. More than 100 public and private North Carolina colleges and universities use the site as an application portal. To date, CFNC.org has more than 1.7 million user accounts and more than 700,000 college applications have been submitted through the site.

In addition to college admission information, CFNC.org offers career and financial aid resources to help North Carolina students and families plan, apply and pay for college.

Funding from Lumina will provide the assistance and tools needed to gauge demand for new features, services, and interactions for North Carolina students, parents, schools, and counselors using the site.

Lumina Foundation for Education, an Indianapolis-based, private foundation, strives to help people achieve their potential by expanding access to and success in education beyond high school. Through grants for research, innovation, communication and evaluation, as well as policy education and leadership development, Lumina Foundation addresses issues that affect access and educational attainment among all students, particularly underserved student groups such as minorities, first-generation college-goers, students from low-income families and working adults. The Foundation bases its mission on the belief that postsecondary education remains one of the most beneficial investments that individuals can make in themselves and that a society can make in its people.

About College Foundation of North Carolina

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), a free service of the State of North Carolina provided by Pathways, College Foundation, Inc. and the NC State Education Assistance Authority, helps students plan, apply and pay for college.

The NC State Education Assistance Authority is the State agency that promotes access to higher education by administering financial aid and savings program, informing students and families about paying for college, teaching educators about financial aid administration, and advocating for resources to support students.

Pathways is a state-based initiative including North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction, the multi-campus University of North Carolina, the North Carolina Community Colleges, and the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities working together to increase access to college for all North Carolinians.

College Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit corporation serving North Carolina students and families since 1955, administers a portfolio of more than $3 billion, including low-interest federal education loans, the state’s college grant programs and the tax-free “529” college savings program on behalf of the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority.
