UNC General Administration launched a redesigned website on March 5 that establishes a distinct visual identity for the University of North Carolina system and introduces new interactive applications.
The new site’s responsive design automatically adapts for viewing on a desktop, tablet, or mobile devices. Along with a new color palette, the revised site features a new system logo that pays tribute to the University’s historic seal, yet provides a more modern, stylized use of the seal’s Apollo sun and rays.
Emphasizing a theme of connection and collaboration, the new site’s home page and top-tier landing pages will more prominently feature news from across UNC’s 17 campuses and major affiliated entities. New features such as the UNC Data Dashboard and a UNC County Connections Map will provide for greater transparency and accountability, and the introduction of social media will enable greater interaction with key system audiences.
Developed in collaboration with SAS, the Data Dashboard is an interactive online database that will give students, parents, policymakers and others an easy-to-use, customizable tool for monitoring, tracking, and assessing University performance, progress toward identified goals, and impact. In addition, through a partnership with the NC Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division, UNC will soon be able to track the employments outcomes of our students who stay and work in North Carolinas.
Website visitors can also explore the interactive County Connections Map to learn how our graduates, academic degree programs, faculty research, extension programs, health care enterprises, cultural offerings, and outreach and engagement are making an impact in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
For more than a year, UNC General Administration Communications staff collaborated with New City Media and worked closely with Information and Technology Services to create a new design, better functionality, and interactive applications that will help ensure users have a positive experience, more easily find what they are looking for, and gain a deeper understanding of the UNC system’s contributions and value to the state.
The new website will be implemented in phases. Top-tier pages and core division content are part of the initial launch. Additional content and more new features and functions will be incorporated over the next several months. Selected content expressly for General Administration staff, campus personnel, retirees and other targeted groups will be housed on an intranet site.
