How will the UNC Presidential Search Committees keep the lines of communication open with the University community and the citizens of the state?
The three committees involved in the Presidential Search will make every effort to share non-confidential information that they can legally disclose. Up-to-date information will be regularly posted to the Presidential Search website at http://www.northcarolina.edu/2010presidentialsearch/index.htm. In addition, members of the University community and the general public will be encouraged through public service announcements and other media to provide feedback via the search website. This public input will help shape the leadership profile of the next President. Information about how to make a nomination or apply for the position will also be provided on the website.
Will you hire a professional search firm to help with the search process?
On the recommendation of the 2010 Presidential Search Selection/Screening Committee, the University has retained R. William Funk & Associates of Dallas, TX, to assist the Board of Governors in the recruitment and selection of the next UNC President.
Will you advertise for this position?
Yes. We will conduct a national search to identify the very best candidates available. We will advertise in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Hispanic Outlook, Women in Higher Education, and within other news sources. We will also ask faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the University to recommend or nominate viable candidates for the position.
Will the Search Committees hold any open forums to solicit public input?
Scheduling open forums across the state would be both costly and logistically challenging. In an effort to contain costs and provide a more convenient way for citizens to share their thoughts and concerns, the Search Committee s are instead utilizing a feedback form on the University’s Presidential Search webpage, found at http://www.northcarolina.edu/2010presidentialsearch/feedback.php. Members of the University community and the general public will be encouraged through public service announcements and other media to provide feedback via the search website, mail, or email.
Will the next UNC President have a term contract?
The President of the University of North Carolina serves at the pleasure of the UNC Board of Governors.
